The Ice Factor

Nice when the temperatures are above the freezing point!
Yes, but it has a down side too.
Melting snow forms ice over night.
That is not water, that is ICE on the sidewalk.
Yesterday evening when I came home, after 8 o'clock, I wanted to park the van in the rear of the house as usual.
Like this.
NOT a good decision.
While driving down the road I observed that ALL the neighbours
had parked their cars in the front of their properties.
For a second the thought brushed me
that it MIGHT be too icy in the back road, but I drove on.

STUPID!
BIG MISTAKE!

I got stuck when I tried to park.
The ice factor!

Spinning!
No good to keep on tying, it would get me nowhere.
I stopped and got out.

The box with the cat litter,
which I bought for exactly that reason,
was in the other van, conveniently gone with hubby.
He wouldn't be back before another day.
My van blocked the back road. What to do?

First, I let the dog out and walked her.
She had been waiting for enough hours already.

Done that I grabbed all kind of old carpets and bed sheets,
which I use for her bedding, and an old door mat as well.

I lined these up in front and behind of each back tire.
And tried. Carefully.
Nothing. Spinning.

Checking again.
Which is the tire that is spinning worse?
Re-arrangement of the garments.
New try.

BINGO!
The van started to move, and I KEPT MOVING
until I was on the road again.
Yeeehaaa!
There it sits for now. No more parking in the back road
for a while.

And the carpet/blankets are drying over the fence.
Whew!
This morning I took a photo of the marks I left.
See the marks I left when I tried to get moving?
Then I went for our morning walk
through the sunlit alleys.
A wood spirit was watching us.
That's enough excitement for now.
Thanks for visiting.

Ooops! Nearly forgotten...

Was tun?

  1. Remember when I got stuck in the sand at Hot Springs and Peter came down to help me get out? That's exactly how I felt when I put my carpet down behind the worst wheel and just slowly pressed on the gas pedal. Don't Stop - Keep Going. I remembered that tip from my research the night before - and again when I got stuck in the sand at Elephant Butte. It's such a wonderful feeling when you're moving and finally get where you want to be. Good for YOU, Bea! I'll bet Peter is proud of his wife!! :)
