Times are changing

Today I have to went my frustration!

There is a trend one can see all over the place. Decades of low wages and increasing (rental) prices have been leaving people with no choices.

The population of homeless people is growing in this country and people have to go nowhere to go. In many big cities the roads along whole city blocks are occupied of tents, cars and older RVs.

Also here on BLM land near El Centro, CA we see the changes. What used to be an area for long term winter camping is now more and more occupied with small trailers, vans and older RVs. Even people living in their cars and tents are camping out here. Some of the places where they gather large dogs running around unsupervised.

Those campers don’t bother to move to the free camping areas any more. They just come and stay, and because of the onslaught of all those people the rangers, and the new host, have become more lenient. 

They have started to allow cars and vans to stay overnight - if they park near the entrance. 

Of course there always are people who disregard the rules and move with their vehicles further in and even stay several days. 

The rule of having at least a 10 gal wastewater tank on board seems to have become obsolete, as well.

Another thing has changed can be observed for the parking area around the hot springs, which officially is off limits for overnight camping. 

This now clogged with cars and vans day and most nights.

The small pools are crowded at any time of the day and I have not used them for the last two years. First because of COVID and now because, in my opinion  it seems to be very unsanitary with so many people using such a small area all the time. Mostly older men are hogging the hot water tubs for hours on end as if they own the place. 

I only took a few photos while driving by.

So, be warned. If you come to visit this area - it is not the same anymore.

I know, I know. Life is a constant change, but unfortunately it is not always for the better.

Man hört und liest es in den Nachrichten: Notorisch niedrige Löhne und drastisch ansteigende Lebenshaltungskosten hinterlassen ihre Spuren. 

Die Anzahl der Obdachlosen in den USA wächst ständig und viele Menschen wissen nicht mehr wohin sie sich wenden sollen.

In den meisten Großstädten leben sie entlang den Straßen in Zelten, Autos und alten Campingwagen. 

Auch hier in der Umgebung von El Centro, CA, sehen wir die Veränderungen. Was ursprünglich als Langzeit Wintercamping Area bereitgestellt wurde wird mehr und mehr von Obdachlosen besetzt. Sie parken ihre Autos, Vans und alte Campingwagen überall. Einige Plätze sehen aus wie “Ziegeunerlager”. Müll fliegt durch die Gegend und große Hunde laufen frei herum. Diese Leute könnten ja die “Gratis Camping Area” benutzen, aber die ist "zu weit draußen”. 

Es sieht so aus als ob der Platzwart und die "Rangers" mehr oder weniger aufgegeben haben.

Sie erlauben neuerdings den Leuten die Nacht über hier zu kampieren, allerdings mit der Auflage daß sie in der Nähe des Eingangs parken sollen. Im Gangabstand zu den Toiletten. 

Natürlich gilt das nicht für alle. 

Einige fahren einfach weiter durch und parken dort tagelang bis sie rausgeschmissen werden. 

Um die Regel daß jede Campingeinheit mit einem mindestens 40 Liter großen Abwassertank ausgerüstet sein muß scheint sich keiner mehr zu kümmern.

Auch um die heiße Quelle hat sich einiges zum Nachteil verändert. Der Parkplatz ist nun tagtäglich gerammelt voll mit Autos und Campingwagen und das “Übernachten untersagt” wird völlig übersehen. Die drei kleinen Pools sind auch ständig überfüllt mit meist alte Männer die dort stundenlang herumsitzen und den Zugang blockieren.

Seit also gewarnt. Diese Gegend ist nicht mehr das was es mal war.

Es ist schon richtig, das Leben ist ein ständigen Wechsel, aber leider nicht immer zum Besten.
