Spring is slow this year

Today was one of the rare days with slightly warmer temperatures,
and I choose to take Dixie to a different trail.
Are we going for a walk? Sure - and off we went.

The trail head starts near the Visitors Centre at the Roosevelt Cottage.
In the shadow small patches of snow had survived.
A little bird was flitting through the branches.
A Golden-crowned Kinglet which was always on the move and
hard to capture but I think this shot
didn't turned out too bad.
Old trees lined our path and one of them showed signs of
heavy attack by woodpeckers.
Dixie seemed to have seen something interesting below this small bridge.
My eyes were trained up to the tree tops.
Male Purple Finch

The trail led out of of the trees and onto an open meadow
where Dixie got busy collecting garbage.
Her favourites are plastic bottles.
She proudly carries them around.
I should really train her to fetch and drop them
into a garbage bag.
On we walked across an old apple orchard.
At some places we caught a glint of the bay.
Not many colours around us, spring is slow to come.
Now came the best part:
We stepped out onto the view platform.
Eastport, Maine, ahead. Their deep water harbour does host
huge tankers. Nothing was there today.

And then the grand vista of the
Passamaquoddy Bay
with Campobello Island, NB on the right, and Deer Island, NB
to the far left.
Mainland Canada in the distance.
I just love to be here, especially on a day like this.

Fashion Front News

Maybe this is getting boring, but that's how it grows:
Baby fur and freezing temperatures:

First coat with 3 month...
very cute!

Then: at 4 1/5 month
Too small, ugh!

Fortunately - there was a new coat for me
cut out from an old windbreaker.
A little too big, but looking good!
Room to grow into - I thought.

NOW - 3 month later: what happened?
Too SMALL again !

I think they just shrink on me.

Luckily in the meantime I shed her baby hair and
my adult fur is thick and water repellent so,
I guess I do not need another protective layer.

YEAH!

Don't worry,
 just relax

April 1- No fools day

Usually I walk Herring Cove Beach every day to get Dixie her exercise.
All blue and calm and innocent looking.

We went by this root that sits embedded in the sand.
That was yesterday.
T
Today everything was different.
There was NO way that we could access the beach.

The little bridge was cut off by water.
The waves pushing the water up to the parking lot.

High winds, full moon and high tide combined
created a furious surf that nearly reached up
 to the beach grass area
along where we use to walk.

Look at these photos!
Do you see that little pin in all the white foam.
THAT is the root we went by yesterday.
Today the waves were pounding it relentlessly.

Instead we walked up towards the view platform and
I took some photos of the fury.
The force of the ocean never ceases to amaze me.
April 1 - this was not a day for "fools" to walk the beach.
