Br_egg_fast time!

October, that's the time when we have to start up our wood stove again.

For Molly this is the best time of the day:
Br_EGG__fast!
She is always watching us while we are savouring our breakfast egg.

Is he eating it all alone??
Will there be a piece for me too?

Fully concentrated.

Last day of September

Summer is winding down rapidly and I finally get more time.
Today I went with our guests towards the northern point of the island.
We could not cross the sandbank to
visit the light station
but we had an awsome view nonetheless.

Fisherboat "Rubber Duck" coming in and
a whale watch group going out towards the islands on the horizon.
Today the whales were far out at the "Wolves" as these islands are called.
Out there they found a young, happy humpback that for a day or two had been caught in a fishing weir.
They lowered the net and he is now free again and was having a ball.
More photos can be viewed at "The Quoddy Links" FB page of Sept30/2016  here.
Also "Island Cruises" our local whale watch company was out and took photos. Photos from their FB source.

Early summer garden

It is always a pleasure to visit my friend's garden.
It is a real oasis for various shrubs, perennials and trees.
On a warm summer day the fragrance of many flowers fills the air.
Today the scent of sweet lilac, honey scented roses and
peppery lupines was prevalent.
Too bad that there is no possibility to bring that online.

But the photos may give you an idea.
The double filled lilac heads are big like grapes
and so heavy that they are hanging upside down.

These tall, Bearded Iris' flowers are the size of my hand.
Sky blue wild iris
Allium siculum among blue Lupines
They look like pink and white bells.

They are also called "Sicilian honey lily", or Sicilian honey garlic.

Beautiful wild lupines, banned as noxious weeds in many places,
but not on this island.
June is the time for Lupines.
I especially like the pink ones with the red "banner".
When I planted some in my garden they all turned out blue. Hopefully I will get some pink ones over time. One never knows.

Scented roses
(Rosa rugosa alba)

Filling the air with it's heady honey like perfume.
Delicious!
