Ghost Town and Sand Dunes

The other day we took a round trip. 

First we went to Yuma for filling Gas and Propane.

Then we took "Ogilby Road" towards the north and stopped at “Tumco” a historic gold mining town.

Once a thriving place for about 300 years, with many people living here, a big mining company, a big general store, a school house and more, 

abandoned in 1905 this is now a rather desolate place.

The one signs that people lived here are the big rusty water tanks, 

which are filled with drifting sand and 

falling apart, 

a few remnants of the houses

that stood here 

and lots of rusty tin cans.

After a frugal lunch we moved further to where "Ogilby Road"meets the "74". 

There we took a turn to 

the west and drove to "Glamis".

This is an Eldorado for desert campers and their dun buggy drivers. If you look closely, there is one in the photo.

From the overlook we had a great

view over the wast amount of pale golden sand.

In the distance one can see the agriculture area of "Imperial Valley".

were telling us that spring is on its way.

Kürzlich haben wir eine Rundfahrt durch die nähere 

Umgebung gemacht.

Zuerst ging es nach Yuma um Benzin und Propan aufzufüllen.

Dann fuhren wir auf der "Ogilby Road" in Richtung Norden bis

nach "Tumco", einer verlassenen Goldgräberstadt.

Viel ist nicht mehr davon zu sehen. Ein paar verrostete Wassertanks, einige Hausmauern und viele rostige Konservendosen zeugen davon das dies einmal eine

bedeutende Stadt war wohin die Eisenbahn Güter und Wasser

transportierte. 

Die Geschichte der Stadt überdauerte 300 Jahre 

bis hin zu1905.

Nach einer kurzen Pause fuhren wir weiter bis zur "74" von 

wo aus wir in Richtung Westen bis nach "Glamis" kamen.

Dieser Ort ist das Mekka für Dünensport. Mit dem Buggy über die Sanddünen rasen ist deren größter Spaß.

Heute jedoch war nur einer unterwegs. Wir hatten eine wunderbare Übersicht über die großen Sandflächen.

And den Straßenrändern und in Vertiefungen blühten schon

die ersten Frühlingsblumen.
