And as usual when we leave the desert in Holtville
we move for a few days to

Here the desert is different, more rocky than sandy. The surrounding is a arid plateau between several mountain ranges.
Coming from 30’ (9. m) in Holtville we moved to 879’ (268 m) in Quartzsite.
The air is a little cooler up here and there are way less bugs around.
Quartzsite is a popular winter destination for many RV'ers.

Each winter the summer population of 3430 swells up to
over 250.000 between November and March when the campers pull in.
Especially crowded is January.
There is the "Big Tent "event (sports, vacation and RV), where vendors exhibit
their newest camping/sport equipment and inventions,
which draws a lot of visitors to the area.
There also is the "Rock and Gem Show" which attracts geology
enthusiasts aka "rock hounds”.
We visited all these about 15 years ago.
Nowadays we choose to avoid the crowds
and only choose to stay here when there are less people around.

Though there are no hot springs around we have access to a free dump station,
to fresh water and garbage removal. That is all we need.

We usually stay along a "wash" at the northern border of
the camping area called "La Posa South"

I like to walk along the wash early in the mornings
"La Posa South", one of several camp areas around Quartzsite,
covers 11.400 acres!

Wie jeden Winter, wenn wir die Wüstenlandschaft um Holtville, California, verlassen, begaben wir uns nach Quartzsite in Arizona
Es liegt auf einer steinigen Hochebene auf etwa 268 m.ü.M.
Das bedeutet kühlere Luft, weniger Staub und weniger Insekten.
Diese Gegend ist sehr beliebt bei den Wintercamper und die Bevölkerung von Quartzsite schwillt dann auch in den Monaten
November bis März von 3430 auf über 250.000 an.
Besonders voll ist es im Januar wenn die Mineralienshow und
die Campingausstellung stattfindet.
Wir haben diese Veranstaltungen schon vor 15 Jahren besucht
und uns seitdem entschieden daß wir hier
lieber kampieren wenn es nicht so übervölkert ist.
Unser saisonaler Campingpass, den wir in Holtville für den dortigen
Aufenthalt gekauft haben, ist auch für diesen Platz gültig.
Anstelle von gratis heißen Quellen haben wir hier gratis Zugang
zur Sani-Station mit Frischwasser und Müllentsorgung.
Einmal hier angekommen suchen wir uns immer einen Stellplatz entlang eines Trockenbetts an der Nordseite des Fläche.
Dort kann man gut mit dem Hund
spazieren gehen und nach Blumen und Vögeln Ausschau halten.
"La Posa South", wie dieser Platz genannt wird,
ist nur einer von mehreren Campingplätzen um Quartzsite herum.
Die Fläche auf der man kampieren darf ist ganze 28.5 km2 groß.
We have been to a number of the places that our seasonal pass allows, but if we want to just enjoy the desert, we go to La Posa South, because of the conveniences. Though we are faced with colder temperatures, we have made lifelong friends while there.
