Start of the season 2019. The first bigger group of visitors to Campobello Island arrived yesterday, May 13, on the "Pearl Mist", a small cruise ship.
The “Pearl Mist” visited us already last October and this is her 3rd time to this
island.
I followed her progress online and we drove up to the tip of the island to monitor her while she was making her way around Head Larbour Lightstation
and into the Head Harbour Passage.
The weather was on the chilly side and the morning sky was cloudy. But by the time the “Pearl Mist” reached their destination in Friar’s Bay
the sky had cleared and the sun was sending some warm rays.
After Boarder Control checking was done the first of three tender boats arrived
at Welshpool Landing and eager passengers were coming up the gangway.
Several vehicles from the "Roosevelt Campobello International Park" and "Campobello Sightseeing" were ready to take them on.
Their main destination was "Franclin D. Roosevelt’s" summer cottage that had opened its doors just for this occasion. The regular opening
Date for the season will be on May 25.
In addition to the cottage our passengers were offered to visit “St Anne’s Anglican Church”, which dates back to 1850,
and Welshpool Museum which was founded 1889. Before reembarking our guests enjoyed refreshments in Welshpool Hall.
A “Thank You” call from the “Pearl Mist” that came in later in the evening confirmed that all guests enjoyed their outing very much!

Mit einer grösseren Gruppe Kreuzfahrtpassagiere fing gestern für uns die Sommersaison 2019 an. Die Besucher kamen mit der “Pearl Mist” ein kleineres Kreuzfahrtschiff das maximal 210 Passagiere aufnehmen kann. Ich hatte ihre Position online verfolgt und wir fuhren rechtzeitig zur Inselspitze heraus um zu beobachten wie sie am Leuchtturm vorbei kamen und in die Enge zwischen Deer Island und Campobello hineinfuhren.
Das Wetter war um diese Zeit noch ungemütlich kalt und grau, doch um die Mittagszeit, als die “Peal Mist” in der “Friar`s Bay” for Anker ging,
kam die Sonne heraus.
Nachdem die Grenzkontrolle abgewickelt war (das Schiff kam von Rockport, ME, USA) landete das erste von drei Passagierboaten am Dock der Welshpool Landing. Bald kletterten die meist älteren Passagiere die Gangway herauf.
Oben angekommen warteten schon mehrere Fahrzeuge vom Park und von Peter's "Campobello Sightseeing" darauf sie zum Zielort zu transportieren. Für die heutige Ausfahrt hatte der “Roosevelt Campobello International Park” frühzeitig die Tore zur “Franklin D. Roosevelt's” Sommerhaus geöffnet. Der eigentliche Öffnungstermin ist der 25. Mai.
Zusätzlich wurden den Kreuzfahrtgästen ein Besuch in der alten (1850) Anglikanischen “St. Anne´s” Kirche und im Museum (1898) angeboten. Bevor sie wieder zurück auf ihr Kreuzfahrtschiff gingen konnten sie noch Kaffe und Kuchen in der “Welshpool Hall” geniessen.
Später am Abend erhielten wir, in einem telefonisches Dankeschön von Bord, die Bestätigung das alle Besucher ihren Landgang sehr genossen hatten. Wie schön!
