Windy again

Today the weather network talked about a “winter storm” which would be crossing the Southwest.

That might be true for some higher elevation but down here it looked liked this while we took our morning walk.

Calm waters of the canal (and two American Coots)

The usual calm waters of the irrigation canal was getting whipped into small "white caps”.

choppy water and white caps on the canal

A rainbow arched over the desert

A rainbow over the desert

indicating that a shower was on its way.

A northwesterly wind was gusty, and several times Peter had to retrieve his hat out of the shrubs.

retrieving the cap

got it!

He also was asked to take a photo of me,

and look how it turned out! :D

Too much good food? or the wind?

Dixie’s fur got ruffled by the wind

Dixie found a stick

 and she got the “zoomies”,

Racing around among the shrubs

enjoying her freedom.

our camper tucked behind the shrubs

In our neighbourhood we saw dust clouds flying,
dust flying in the neighbourhood

and our small “Troll” looked scared as the wind tossed him around.

After our walk Dixie hid herself
among the rabbit bushes

but as it begun to rain
Dixie snoozing on her bed

she decided to rather come inside.
Much more comfortable than being outside in the wind.
The sun is shining again, the trailer is rocking,
but the wind will subside later in the afternoon

Nachmittag wieder abnehmen.

Dixie's days in the desert

The days are running into months and you

might wonder what our dog "Dixie" is up to

all day long.

As a LSGD

(life stock guardian dog)

she is vigilant but laid back by nature.

She is not a dog who likes or needs long walks either.

"Dixie" enjoys vastly being outside for most of the day.

She definitely dislikes being confined in the camper trailer.

Not enough space for her taste, and that thing rocks

every time someone moves around,

despite its four supportive legs.

Being outside is her favourite, even if the law says

dogs have to be leashed all the time.

Protecting us from any intruder is very important to her!

She watches the area from different angles.
Or she snoozes.
Warming up in the sun, and cooling down in the shade.
Under a creosote bush near the road
or in the wind shade among rabbit shrubs.
Little birds don't bother her, they hop right by.
People and dogs walking by have to be announced, though,
as soon as she hears the crunching of gravel.
Sometimes we allow her "to meet and greet".
Then all barking stops and the tail wags.

Regular walks along the nearby irrigation canal,
 where "Dixie" picks up
a stick every time to carry home. Her chosen "chores".
She misses gathering empty cans, we figure.
To ease her barking we parked the van in the entrance to our spot.
What she doesn't see, does not aggravate her as much.
More snoozing, less noise.
Watching over her dad
and giving him lots of cuddles.
Live is good!

November - nearly ready for takeoff

The mild October days, (with a few windy days)

continued into the first days of November.

Yesterday we had reached a whooping 17 C (62.6F) !

Maybe we should stay at home?

We went to all the beautiful places one more time.
It makes leaving not easy.

But, tonight were are back to 0C (32F)

Time to go travelling anyway?

***

The last few days was very busy with packing the camper and cleaning the house.

Finally we are done. The water is off  and the power shut down.

And we got our booster shots today.

Dixie is trying some of her new outfits -

a harness
Her reaction : I can do that.

and at the very last minute : a raincoat

Her faxe says it all: really? You must be kidding me!

Well, no, we are not joking here.

Have you ever walked a 98 pound dog in a heavy downpour and then

entered an RV or camper?

Than you know. WET, wetter and wettest.

Wet carpet, wet dog bed and wet dog smell for ever!

Not this time.

I hope she will figure it out for herself:

that it is very nice to stay dry and

we will be all happy campers!

OK, now one more sleep and then:

It is a go!

Couch time is OVER!

One year has gone by
and Dixie has reached about her adult size.
She also has grown out of her second wire cage.
We took it down, it had done it's purpose.
More and more Dixie had take over our three seater couch.
While that was fun when she was small
it became more inconvenient for us now.
Therefore hubby created a special doggy bed
just for Dixie.
He took to discarded headboards we found at a yard sale.
Softened with mattress, cushions and her blanket
it resembles the couch.
Thank you Peter!
We can watch the birds from here too.
It took about a week before the new
bed was fully accepted by Dixie.
But now -
No problem any more. YEAH!

And we have our couch back!
She even leaves the couch alone when we are away
or during the whole night.
I can easily find out: the amount of hair that she would have left behind on the fabric.
Good girl!

Guter Hund!
Wir sind begeistert.
