November - nearly ready for takeoff

The mild October days, (with a few windy days)

continued into the first days of November.

Yesterday we had reached a whooping 17 C (62.6F) !

Maybe we should stay at home?

We went to all the beautiful places one more time.
It makes leaving not easy.

But, tonight were are back to 0C (32F)

Time to go travelling anyway?

***

The last few days was very busy with packing the camper and cleaning the house.

Finally we are done. The water is off  and the power shut down.

And we got our booster shots today.

Dixie is trying some of her new outfits -

a harness
Her reaction : I can do that.

and at the very last minute : a raincoat

Her faxe says it all: really? You must be kidding me!

Well, no, we are not joking here.

Have you ever walked a 98 pound dog in a heavy downpour and then

entered an RV or camper?

Than you know. WET, wetter and wettest.

Wet carpet, wet dog bed and wet dog smell for ever!

Not this time.

I hope she will figure it out for herself:

that it is very nice to stay dry and

we will be all happy campers!

OK, now one more sleep and then:

It is a go!

The Best of October

The first half of Oktober was just gorgeous,

Whitehorse Island

mild and warm as late summer days.

Bald Eagle

Bald Eagles watching the empty beaches.

Herring Cove Beach, Campobello

The most of our summer visitors have left.                                  Raccoon Beach View

 Roads and beaches are abandoned.

Wherever we walk fall colours decorating the trails.

Around the middle of October, it all changed.

View from Liberty Point, CampobelloMore drama under those low hanging clouds.

Only one week until November.

March - Reluctantly winter looses its grip

March started with yet another raging storm,

Welshpool Landing
the water was pretty wild in the bay.
On the ferry, Campobello bridge in the distance
A few days later the weather turned very mild,
Waterside of Eastport, Maine
and we could take pleasure ride on the ferry, without freezing.

Thanks to the pandemic, our "summer" ferry continued to run all winter/spring, on a 4 days a week schedule, so that. people can reach Canadian mainland without having to cross into the US.

View over part of Wilson's Beach

Of course,  being March, the mild days came to an end

Meadow behind the Roosevelt Cottage
with cold fog rolling in.
Window at Hubbard Cottage
A walk across the Roosevelt grounds showed everything looks still drab after the long winter months.

A few American Robins trying to find the early worm.

As the month neared its end the first waves of migrating birds arrived at my feeders. Common Grackles

Lots of noisy Common Grackles.

Herring Cove , near parking lot

On many days there was still frost in the air,

Dixie in frosty morning air
but we enjoyed ourselves nonetheless walking up to the view point.

Herring Cove Bay, view point
There will be another month gone before spring will really be here.

Until then,

First Crocus

Happy Easter to all!

Frohe Ostern allerseits!

February - Finally Winter Weather

With the start of February the weather changed from mild to wintry.
Storm clouds rolled in, icy wind blew from the northwest.

The flattened grass shows how high up the surf washed during
the worst of the storm.
And again, the waves eroded more and more of the shoreline.
Roots washed out and trees downed.
One weather front after the other moved in
and we got our fair share of snow.
Luckily, after 19 years in Canada, we finally had decided
to splurged on a snow blower.
At our age shovelling snow isn't fun any more.
The snow changed the drab and brown landscape back
 into a winter wonder land.
Taking photos of all the beauty.
The sand shows where the high how far up the tide reached
during the night.

The days are markedly longer now
and in the evenings, on our walks
around the neighbourhood,
we enjoy the different sunsets.
Always so beautiful.

A Rather Mild January

January started out rather mild, it

looked more like March to us.

But this did not last long, of course,

January is still one of the coldest month of the year.
So, we got our share of cold and some snow too.
Due to the pandemic, we are mostly confined to our island,
walking around and enjoying our most favourite places.
Sometimes we find sea glass among the pebbles,
or empty clam shells
washed off of the fishing vessels.
Sunny, mild days followed by
stormy days.
Sometimes the ocean looks like a mirror
on other we walk in snow on the beach.
But February started on a different note....
Stay tuned.

Fortsetzung folgt...
