Windy and cold

The thing is: to stay out of the fierce cold wind.
Day after day we are getting a NNE, and there
is no way we will walk on the beach.
Not much to look at, but we are giving Dixie an opportunity
to run of some of her energy.
She is now about 7mth old and weights 47 pounds. (21 kg)

This tree had a crack from top to bottom.
Hard to say if it is caused by lightning or maybe frost.

Are you coming?
Just a second - I have to take just another photo.
And another one.
There is beauty in the woods too.

Cabin Fever

With three days cooped up inside because of an extreme cold and windy weather pattern I am bordering on "cabin fever".

Wind chills down to -35C (-31F) are a hazard to exposed skin
and not recommended for a walk.
What to do?
I could read,
but Dixie is "bored to death".
She keeps going to her "toy box" picking
one item after the other to throw at our feet.
"Tug-of-war" and "fetch-the-ball" are her favourite games
and chewing endlessly on squeaking toys is next.
Or disembowelling stuffed toys - Great fun!
We sit down on the floor with her and play as good as we can
on our limited floor plan.
A heated ware house would be the thing!
With all kind of fancy agility play stuff.
We got her tired out eventually and she is ready for a nap.
Until the next energy boost.
One more day to go.

Tomorrow, the temperatures are predicted to rise up to
 0C (32F)
and we are looking forward to a LONG walk.

Was soll man da nur machen?

Female problems

With the temperature plummeting and a fierce wind blowing
I wanted to cover up our puppy.
Not a surprise, really.

Dixie has grown a lot lately
and the coats that fit her neatly a few weeks ago
are too small now.
Sorry mom, I have outgrown this one.
That one is barely hanging onto me.

We are in the position most women recognize:

I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR!

Either I grow a winter coat on my own or
Santa has to bring one pretty soon!

Grey Days, Sunny Days

November, already a thing of the past.
Its last days were rather on the chilly side,
down to 15°F (-10°C),
grey and windy.
There was no way that I was going to stay outside
for a prolonged time.

One of the favourite things we did, when staying in the desert of California,
was getting together and do a puzzle.
No desert here, no friends either, that is too bad.

On the good side: I had a puzzle at hand.
This time it was a 500 piece "Still-life" of flowers and fruit.
The sun had already faded the picture on the container.
Red had turned to purple, yellow to white and green to a bluish tint.
It took me two afternoons in deep concentration
to get it done. There!
Maybe my brain is still working as it should.
That is good.
Because, sometimes I am in doubt about it.
Things seem so easily forgotten
in a mere moment.
*
Today, on the first day of December,
the temperatures were on the rise again,
the sun was out.
On the windowsill
another project looks promising.

It was in August when I took cuttings of various petunias.
Some of them made it until now.
Pretty flowers.
Memories of bygone summer days.

Aunties summary

Erinnerungen an vergangene Sommertage.
