On a Boating Adventure

All because of a friend had a friend who owns a boat.

I got an invitation to go along

What a treat that was!

We cruised up from North Road Harbour along small islands and ledges

up to the Head Harbour Passage and back again.

While being on the water I took tons of photos from seabirds,

seals and the beautiful nature around us.

All wildlife photos were taken with a very long tele lens and

appropriate distance were kept at all times.

Not an easy task and a challenge  because of the movements while cruising along

or moving up and down while just idling.

Luckily there was low windspeed and the water relatively calm.

The sky was wide and beautiful, some grey clouds moving in

towards the end of the trip, though.

On ledges and islands there were hundreds of gulls resting.

Black-legged Kittiwakes, Bonaparte's Gulls and Common Terns resting

The receding tide revealed ledges where seal would
gather to rest and sun themselves.

All in all a gorgeous ride over the waters on a warm summer day.
Thanks for taking me out!
It was marvellous!

schipperten vorbei and kleinen und grösseren Inseln

Here I am again!

Long time  - No see!
That is quite true.
And it has several reasons. First, I have been incredibly busy,
second, we changed our access to the internet and third, time flew by just too fast.
But I did some walks and took a lot of photos.

Here are some of the highlights I captured over the last four month:

Dixie testing the water at Lake Glensevern
Campobello International Bridge shrouded in fog
View of Lubec, Maine
White-tailed Deer in my backyard
Monarch Butterfly
Grey Seal very close to shore watching us
"American Eagle" visiting Campobello Island
Cable Trawler bringing a new power cable to the island
Lots of visitor all summer long, Peter was quite busy
Finally fall with its beautiful colours has arrived
Quiet trails again after most of the summer visitors left the area.
October is the time of beautiful sunsets
I hope you enjoyed my selection of photos. Winter will soon be here and with that
there will be more time to do some posting.
See you then!

October hike to Sunsweep Sculpture

One of our favourite trails on the island is
Sunsweep Trail.
That's were we went today.
Although the trees are colouring on the mainland we still
have plenty of green around here.
We followed one of the carriage roads into the park to
Liberty Point and parked close to the trailhead.
Along the path, which is part board walk, part natural,
 we also found some mushrooms.
The trail leads us along the rugged coast of the island,
facing the Bay of Fundy.
In the distance: "Rugget Point" our destination for today.
In the seaweeds a Great Blue Heron is watching our progress.
This sculpture is only half an hour away from the parking lot.
All of the trails are well marked.
The afternoon sun was bright, the air very clear with
a brisk wind out of the northwest.

After 30 minutes we reached Sunsweep Scuplture,
erected in 1985 by Michigan artist
David Barr (1939 - 2015)
as a symbol for international friendship.
The other parts of the sculpture are located at
a place near Lake-of-the-woods, Minnesota
and Point Roberts, Washington.
In the distance the ferry from Grand Manan on
its way back to Black Harbour, NB.
We never get tired of the spectacular view.
Sometimes we spot whales out in the water, but
we were not lucky today.
Just beautiful nature all around us.
