The first night here in the desert we slept like the dead. No noise, no light pollution. The plan was to go to Ajo, AZ and do laundry, but we decided just to hang out with our friends and have a good day's rest. Which we did.

Today, the second day, we packed up everything we needed for the trip to town and - got no-where. We could not believe it, but the gear shift stick was loose again. And this time Peter was unable to fix it.

And, while underneath the van, he found the ugly truth:
the GMC repair shop in Freehold, NJ had only taken our payment but not repaired the damaged cable.
The old bushing, for which Peter had used copper wire to keep it in position, was still there.
We had trusted those guys and they had fooled us.
We will definitely update our review.

In the end we had to call a towing company and the van got towed to the nearby town Ajo, AZ.
The local repair shop called us back only to tell us:
that parts were not available in Arizona right now, they have to be ordered and shipped from out of state. And - there is a small leak in the water pump. Bummer.
Now we are stuck here at least until the end of next week.
The good thing is that our friends had planned to stay here until the end of November and they offered to help us getting around to town if would we need anything.

Das Drama geht weiter
Wir schliefen die erste Nacht in der Wüste wie ein Stein. Kein Lärm, nur sternenklarer Himmel.
Eigentlich hatten wir vor gehabt zur Münzwäscherei zu fahren, aber wir entschieden uns dagegen und machten den lieben langen Tag nichts außer ruhen und entspannen.
Heute, am zweiten Tag, packten wir dann alles zusammen um in die Stadt zu fahren und - Nichts.
Der neulich “reparierte” Schalthebel war schon wieder lose. Und diese Mal konnte JP es nicht mehr beheben.
Die GMC Werkstatt in New Jersey hatte uns angeschmiert. Das Geld kassiert aber nichts repariert. JP fand daß die alten Kabel, mitsamt dem provisorischen Kupferkabel, immer noch montiert waren. Keine neuen Kabel waren installiert worden. Wir hatten ihnen vertraut und sie hatten uns schamlos betrogen!
Nepper, Schlepper, Bauernfänger!
Im Endeffekt mußten wir den Abschleppdienst kommen lassen. Eine Stunde später kam der Befund von der Werkstatt: die Ersatzteile waren in ganz Arizona nicht zu bekommen, sie müssen erst per Kurier von anderen Staaten geschickt werden. Unglaublich aber wahr, wir werden mindestens bis Ende nächster Woche hier stecken bleiben. Ein Glück daß unsere Freunde geplant hatten bis Ende des Monats hier zu bleiben. Sie haben uns ihre Hilfe angeboten falls wir irgendetwas aus dem nahegelegenen Städtchen “Ajo” (sprich: Aho) brauchen.
Da kann man nur noch “birding" gehen und die Sonnenuntergänge photographieren.
