February - Finally Winter Weather

With the start of February the weather changed from mild to wintry.

Storm clouds rolled in, icy wind blew from the northwest.

The flattened grass shows how high up the surf washed during

the worst of the storm.

And again, the waves eroded more and more of the shoreline.

Roots washed out and trees downed.

One weather front after the other moved in 

and we got our fair share of snow.

Luckily, after 19 years in Canada, we finally had decided

 to splurged on a snow blower. 

At our age shovelling snow isn't fun any more.

The snow changed the drab and brown landscape back 

 into a winter wonder land.

Taking photos of all the beauty.

The sand shows where the high how far up the tide reached 

during the night.

The days are markedly longer now

and in the evenings, on our walks

around the neighbourhood,

we enjoy the different sunsets.

Mit dem Februar kam das kalte Winterwetter. Ein Sturmtief nach dem anderen zogen mit Starkwind und Schneefall durch unsere Gegend.

Entlang der Küste sah man überall die Zerstörung. Bäume entwurzelt und

ganze Hänge abgetragen. Die Sturmwellen wuschen auch  bis weit auf die Dünengrasflächen hinauf.

Nach langen grauen Tagen schien die Sonne dann auf ein Märchen aus Blau und Weiß.

Davon mußten erst einmal wieder Photos gemacht werden!

Die Tage sind auch merklich länger geworden und auf unserem allabendlichen

Spaziergang durch die nächste Nachbarschaft kann man jeden 

Tag einen anderen Sonnenuntergang bewundert.

A Rather Mild January

 January started out rather mild, it 

looked more like March to us. 

But this did not last long, of course, 

January is still one of the coldest month of the year.

            So, we got our share of cold and some snow too.

 Due to the pandemic, we are mostly confined to our island,

walking around and enjoying our most favourite places.

Sometimes we find sea glass among the pebbles, 

or empty clam shells 

washed off of the fishing vessels.

Sunny, mild days followed by

stormy days.

 Sometimes the ocean looks like a mirror

on other we walk in snow on the beach.

But February started on a different note....

Der Januar began mit Temperaturen die eigentlich erst im März zu erwarten wären.

Aber es blieb nicht so, denn schliesslich ist dieser Monat immer

noch einer der kältesten im Jahr. 

Da wir, wegen der Pandemie, immer noch auf unserer Insel beschränkt sind

gehen wir viel spazieren, und genießen die großartige Natur.

Ab und zu finden wir am Strand buntes Seeglas oder angeschwemmte Muschelschalen.

Jeder Tag ist anders. Sonnig oder wolkig, ruhig oder stürmisch.

Mild oder kalt, es wird nie langweilig.

Der Februar allerdings brachte anderes Wetter

mit sich.

Last thoughts of 2020

Three more days until the New Year arrives.

 December flew by fast. 

This year was different. 

Lots of warm, spring like days, 

a dusting of snow now and then.

Gloomy days with thick clouds

and high winds.

Christmas came and went. 

We had a very few friends visiting for a coffee. 

Each on a different day.

Christmas Day was the warmest on record with 14C (52F). 

Our "summer ferry" was able to run longer than ever before, 

only interrupted by windy days.

There is always something to  see and to photograph.

One clear night I was able to see

 Jupiter and Saturn, nearly conjoining

The sun has  now reached its southern most point at the horizon, 

seen from my living room window. 

From now on it will move northwards again. 

In a few weeks she will be behind the tree, then to the right of it and further north. 

With this after sunset photo of our international bridge 

I will round up this year 

wishing you all a

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2021

with hope that everything will turn out for the better.

Nur noch 3 Tage bis zum Jahreswechsel.

Der Dezember war anders, wesentlich wärmer als normal. 

Am 1. Weihnachtstag erreichten wir ganze 13 Grad.

Es gab ein paar sonnige Tag, viel dunkle Wolken und Wind und

ab und zu ein bisschen Schnee, der aber schnell wieder schmolz.

Sogar unser Fähre, die eigentlich nur im Sommer fährt, durfte

wegen der Pandemie

in diesem Winter länger operieren. 

Das Weihnachtsfest ist nun auch schon wieder vorbei. Wir hatten nur

zwei Kaffeegäste und immer nur einen zur Zeit.

Die Zeit vergeht viel zu schnell, doch es gibt immer etwas zu sehen. 

Landschaften, Vögel, Wellen, Seehunde, Sterne, Sonnenuntergänge.

Die Sonne ist an ihrem südlichsten Punkt angelangt.

Von nun an "bewegt sie sich" wieder in Richtung Norden. 

Bald geht sie hinter der Tanne unter, dann rechts davon, und so weiter.

Mit dem Photo von unserer Brücke verabschiede ich mich für dieses Jahr,

bedanke mich bei meiner Leserschaft
